Sad Tequila News
:-(
Dear Friends and Fans of
The New Mexico International Tequila Experience™...
It is with a heavy heart that we, The Southwest Tequila Association, make this announcement....
Due to an archaic law in New Mexico that will not allow non-employees of establishments to sample spirits--as well as other petty jealousies among local
distributors--our event has been cancelled for this year.
Currently, there are lobbyists working to pass a bill through our State Legislature that will facilitate spirits/beer sampling, but the Legislature won't be in session until January '05! If the bill passes, it won't go into effect until July '05.
Until then...
We're dead in the water. The beer/wine/spirits industry in New Mexico has been crippled by this law during what is traditionally the busiest time of the year.
We will be sending out press releases regarding this, to be followed by an article that we will publish on our website, this e-mail list, and other tequila sites.
The Southwest Tequila Association thanks you, our friends and fans, for your continued support of our show from the beginning. We are looking into other options for next year, and hope to make 2005's event the grandest ever!
We regret any inconveniences this may have caused to tequila aficionados everywhere. It was truly a situation that arose at the eleventh hour, as you will see shortly.
Sincerely,
The Southwest Tequila Association
